The Importance of the Travel and Aviation Industry
The travel industry is big business, with thousands of people jetting off each year to enjoy the hot weather and the sun and sea. At the turn of the 1900′s there was little call for passenger travel on aircrafts and most of the people that could afford a holiday would only travel locally, this was usually by train or tram. Most working class people could not afford to holiday. Seaside places such as Skegness and Margate were popular choices with those who could afford it, and when people ventured out on holiday, there was no entertainment just the sand and sea. This was until Billy Butlin launched his first campsite in 1936. This campsite which opened it’s doors to the public on the 11th of April 1936 was an immediate hit, this was a luxurious campsite which offered holidays at prices that working class people could afford. The campsite provided meals and entertainment much as the hotels abroad do nowadays. Many people prefer to go abroad due to the unpredictability of the weather in England. Air travel became popular in the 1960′s but only few people could afford to travel abroad. By the beginning of the 1980′s more and more people were beginning to travel abroad, being one of the first of a group of friends to travel via planes was often seen as a must do and a talking point. Boeing made it possible for people to fly, and are still today the biggest plane manufacturer. The importance of being able to fly abroad to different countries is paramount. Air travel allows people to travel quickly to the other side of the world. Before air travel a trip from London to America would have taken weeks, not hours. The aviation industry has allowed us as people to spread our wings and experience new possibilities in life, which at one time of the day were simply impossible. As a world we rely on the concept of Aviation, it is a hugely important aspect of modern life.
